You may wondering why this year in February we are having 29 days instead of 28 days?

THIS IS CALLED LEAP YEAR!

Leap years are needed to keep our modern day Gregorian Calendar. Which is the calendar we are using.

It takes the earth approximately 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 45 seconds to complete a full circle around the Sun, which is consider one year.

However, the Georgian Calendar has only 365 days in a year, so if we do not add a Leap Day on February 29 we would lose almost 6 hours of our calendar every year.
In order to have an alignment with the earth's revolution around the sun, we accumulate those 6 hours that we are losing every year and add them to one full day (6x4=24) and this is why every 4 years we add one more day to the month of February which is the shortest month in our calendar.

This is why you will see every 4 years on the month of February has 29 days instead of 28 days and if we don't do it our calendar would be off. For example, if we are taking 100 years without adding the leap days every 4 years, our calendar would be off by 24 days. This is the importance of the leap year.

This year 2016 is a Leap Year and our next one will be on 2020.

There are people who were born on the Leap Day - February 29?
A person who is born on February 29 maybe called "leap ling" or a "leap year baby".
Some leap lings celebrate their birthday on February 28 or March 1st. While others only observe birthdays on the authentic interplanetary date: February 29 and they have a birthday every 4 years.

We are taking this opportunity to wish HAPPY BIRTHDAY! to all of you who were born on February 29, and hope now you'll get to know why you're so special.
